The fifth report in the series “Opinions on unions and work” deals with freedom and privileges at work as well as perceived class identity. 

The fourth report in the series ‘Opinions on unions and work’ presents employee views on trade union tasks, trade union influence and cooperation between LO and the Social Democratic Party. 

The quintessence of trade union strength is having a large number of members who want to be organised in trade unions. But almost equally important is that a large number of members also want to assume trade union assignments and in their capacity as elected union representatives conduct daily trade union work at workplaces. 

Views on trade union membership: In the middle of the 1990s almost 90 percent of workers were members of a trade union. Since then there has been a slow but steady decrease of the union membership.  

Views on wages and wage differences: A clear majority of all employees – 76 per cent - are of the opinion that the wage differences between different occupations are too big. 

The Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) has sent the attached letter to the Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr. R T Erdogan, protesting against the violence against the peaceful demonstrations in the country.
